Mountain Plant

Got a bit bored/frustrated with the whole Turbine Hall thing today, so I decided to do a bit of drawing instead for a bit.

Starting work on it...

Pinata...

Finished!

Back to work...

My first drawing with a pc tablet. Pretty messy/basic but you have to start somewhere I suppose...

More messing about...another me...

It's Getting There...

The main section of the building is now done. I just need to deal with the east and west walls at either end...and to texture a few more bits here and there...

A test shot in HD, as this is the resolution I'm going to be rendering at eventually...

A Bit Of Texturing

Ooooh, much better...

Same again, but slightly tweaked, and close up.

Glow light comp...works okay..

Trying to build some ligthing into the textures (computer game style!). Not so successful...

A bit of light texturing...

Escalators!

Moving escalators:

Finished rendering this from yesterday. Testing to see how the low poly details hold up at closer range...

Update!

The toon lines muck up about half way through...but they're pretty glitchy anyway, plus I think it's fine without them anyway.

Sunday 13 December 2009

More stuff...

A lot more to go, and tons of tidying up to do...but it's coming along...

Final Shading

This is the final shading I'm going to use for this animation. Obviously all the imperfection with the cloth sim need to be sorted out...etc...this is just a rush job so I could play about with how things look.

Wednesday 21 October 2009

Same again, but toon shaded.

Today was a day of doing stuff that bore no significant progress, but needed to be done for things in the future, such as setting everything up for facial animation, which takes ages...and linking all the controls....but I did do a quick and messy walk cycle as a test.

Tuesday 20 October 2009

Time for clothes...

Just testing out a relatively 'extreme' position to check whether I did anything wrong with my cloth setup...turns out it's fine! Woo!

Me, me, me...

Started work on my new version of myself, while I'm rendering off some Lighthouse stuff:

A little bit too chinny so far...
This is what I've done so far. In the end I decided I wanted something that looked a lot more like the version of myself in my drawings...which is far more stylised and cartoony.

Initially I started out using photographs of my own face...as my interpretation of my drawings in my previous attempt at this resulted in a slight strange looking version of me. However the results were far too realistic...and was not the result I wanted.

David Again...

Currently rendering out this.

Facial Structure

Playing Computer Games

Different Position / Expressions

Here's some drawings for a new version of me that I'm going to make, now that I kind of know what I'm doing. Got a few ideas for it's use in various potential pieces of work...

Animation

Victory!

Another test render...

...and another. Still playing aorund in post to get things looking right.

Saturday 10 October 2009

Non Walk Cycle Walking

...better but still not perfect.

...try again...

Friday 9 October 2009

Jump!

Back on the animation tutorials. Brushing up before I get animating the section of this animation I have planned out. Only doing about 15 or so shots. I feel it's time to move on after that...

Fake Depth of Field

Camera lense effects using render layers, and then blurring in After Effects (it's quite subtle and hard to see on compressed video).

HD Rendering

Okay...I want to make my animation in HD. However rendering stuff out in HD takes absolutely ages....especially on my crappy computer. I'm going to, however, attempt to fake it. Since my character is the focus of the animation, she's going to be properly rendered out in HD. The rest of the scene is going to be rendered out at 1/2 HD (similar to PAL res really), scaled up, and post processed, to get rid of some of the pixelation. It will look a bit more blurry...but will still have the drawn look I'm going for...hopefully. This is a test frame.
